New Avid Trails at Red Ledges

New Avid Trails at Red Ledges, Utah.

The Avid crew has been busy these last few weeks blazing new trails in the beautiful community of Red Ledges.

Red Ledges is a 2,000 acre planned community in the Heber Valley, southeast of Salt Lake City. While initial planning included basic assessment of potential trails, Avid Trails was engaged to develop a more complete trails master plan, followed by a commission to construct the trails.

Our team leveraged its experience building trails in mountain terrain to create a plan that is feasible to build and eliminate conflicts with other uses such as the Jack Nicklaus golf course, and 12 hole golf park. Acknowledging the constraints created by the terrain and golf courses, we mapped trails that pay careful attention to grade and anticipated users, which will provide connections between key amenity nodes, neighborhoods and community open spaces.

The trail system includes both natural surface hiking trails and improved crushed stone connector trails paralleling arterial roads. The Avid Trails team also designed a Kids Adventure Trail concept to complement existing amenities at the Red Ledges Club.

The first phase of building covers about two miles of trails, and includes easy “green” trails and more challenging “blue” trails with a variety of elevation gain, giving hikers stunning views of the surrounding Heber Valley and Wasatch Range.
