Philly’s First Fit Pod Now Open at Smith Playground

Philly’s first FitPod now open at Smith Playground.

What. A. Day. Seriously, it’s hard to explain how excited we were to finally open Philadelphia’s first outdoor Fit Pod in conjunction with the ribbon cutting of the Point Breeze neighborhood’s newly renovated Smith Playground.

We think every community in the country should have a Fit Pod at their disposal, but what an incredible experience to see how important, meaningful and beneficial one can be in a place like Smith Playground. Combine the pod with newly renovated b-ball courts, freshly rebuilt turf football and sports fields, a new paved walking and running trail, renovated rec center building, new playground, rain gardens, beautiful landscaping and you’ve got something that has the ability to change the lives of people and kids in South Philadelphia.

We are so grateful to former Philadelphia Eagle (and current LA Ram) Connor Barwin and his Make the World Better Foundation, as well as Jeff Tubbs and the Urban Roots team for working tirelessly to not only make the project possible, but to push the vision, invite new ideas and thinkers to the table and bring it all to life. And a huge shout out to City Fitness Philly,  Thrive Fit and National Bar League for collaborating with us on the Fit Pod design, layout and functionality.

Most of all… thanks to all the friends and Philadelphia residents who came together as a community, supported the project, came out to see what we accomplished and hung out to have some fun in the park. That’s how it ought to be.
